The system consists of a feed tank, vaporizer, pre-flash vessel, upper column, lower column, two column reboilers, and two overhead condensers with vacuum jets. In this design, up to 20 mt/hr of crude toluene enters the feed tank at 60oC and 1.0 bar-absolute. There is a low-pressure steam coil in the 304 stainless steel feed tank. The crude toluene is then pumped through the vaporizer rated for 2.0 MM kcal/hr where the temperature is increased to 120oC. After the crude toluene is vaporized, it enters the pre-flash vessel operated at 120oC and 1.1 bar-absolute. The bottoms from the pre-flash vessel enter the middle section of the 304 stainless steel upper toluene column. This column is 1 meter diameter by 8.3 meters tall with two packed sections and operates at 111oC and 1.02 bar-absolute in the top section and 177oC and 1.04 bar-absolute in the bottom section.

7 Ton/hour Hydrochloric acid (HCl) recovery system. It can handle up to 24 m3/hr of liquid feed and separate out the organics, water, and HCl in aqueous form. Rated at 24 Cubic Meter/Hour @ 3% HCl in Phenol and produces 23% HCl. The system includes a main distillation column for HCl removal, four HCl absorbers, an HCl regeneration column, and an HCl water removal column.

In this design, the product feed enters the top of the acid removal column which operates at 133 degrees C bottoms temperature and 0.17 bar of pressure. The column overheads leaves at 60 degrees C and is partially condensed. The liquid from the condenser goes to an acid-organic separator where the organics float out the top and the aqueous HCl goes out the bottom. The vapors from the condenser proceed to four HCl vacuum absorbers.

The HCl streams from the acid-organic separator and the vacuum absorbers combine in an accumulator to feed the HCl regeneration column. This column operates at 130oC and 2.0 bar of pressure. The bottoms stream from this column feeds the water removal column which operates at 60oC and 0.17 bar of pressure. The aqueous HCl is concentrated to 23% in this particular operation, but this is adjustable.

8 metric ton per hour BPA Distillation System. This all stainless steel, evaporator system was designed to separate and purify up to 8 mt./hr. of Bisphenol-A (BPA) from a complex mixture including isomers, acetone, and water.

In this design, the product feed is preheated and fed to the BPA Evaporator which is 2.3 meters diameter by 3.8 meters tall. The evaporator has a demister pad on the overheads and operates at 230°C and 0.009 bar-absolute. The evaporator overheads go to a condenser rated for 1.0 MM kcal/hr. which condenses the majority of the BPA (8,000 kb/hr.). The un-condensed vapors continue on to two more condensers; the isomer condenser and the freeze condenser where BPA isomers and acetone are condensed.

The bottoms from the BPA Evaporator recirculate through a reboiler rated for 1.3 MM kcal/hr. A side-stream from the bottoms flow continues to the Luwa Evaporator. This evaporator is 1.2 meters diameter by 3.1 meters tall and operates at 200°C and 0.009 bar-absolute. The bottoms from the Luwa Evaporator are fed to the BPA tar handling section of the plant (no longer available). The overheads from the Luwa Evaporator feed the recovery column.

The BPA Recovery Column is 0.8 meters diameter by 4 meters tall and operates at 200°C and 0.009 bar-absolute. The column bottoms drain back to the Luwa Evaporator. The column overheads go through a small condenser where the remaining pure BPA is condensed. The non-condensables continue on to the freeze condenser (not included in system).

The system consists of a flash evaporator with reboiler (IPP # 221631 and 221552), a 64 Sq. Ft. Luwa evaporator (IPP # 221539), a recovery column (IPP# 221626), and multiple overhead condensers and misc. pumps,
