Additional Information: • 300 GPM, Zero Discharge System brine evaporator/crystallizer system (ZLD)System includes a falling film evaporation system, with mechanical vapor recompression, and a forced circulation crystallizer. • Previously used by a major utility company. This process has been maintained to an excellent standard. The overall system is designed to concentrate 300 GPM flow rate Reverse Osmosis reject stream to essentially dry, land fillable solids. Distillate produced in the evaporator / crystallizer is of high quality ( less than 10 mg/l TDS excluding volatiles) and suitable to recycle. There are two 150 GPM, MVR falling film Brine Evaporators followed by a 50 GPM feed flow rate, steam driven, forced circulation type Brine evaporative crystallizer. A centrifuge is integrated with the crystallizer to produce solids suitable for a landfill. • All major and minor components are included including some but not all field instrumentation. The evaporator uses "seeding" crystals in the slurry in order to prevent scale up on the tubes. Major items are as follows: Two (2) 150 GPM falling film evaporators with titanium tubes, and flood box/sump constructed of AL6XN and 316 SS. Each evaporator has a MVR system with a mechanical compressor provided by Dresser-Rand, and a recirculation pump by ITT rated for 5000 gpm. ( IPP stock numbers 228146 & 228148) ; One 50 GPM crystallizer, previously had a rubber lined vessel, but was removed due to bad rubber. (vessel can be re fabricated from either SS or CS). Also with a 3,500 sq.ft. shell and tube heat exchanger, and a recirculation pump rated for 19,000 GPM. The heater has wetted parts of AL6XN, and the pump alloy is CD4MCu. ( IPP stock numbers 228100 through 228110) Dry product is discharged through a Bird centrifuge rated for 18,000 lbs./hr. (IPP stock number 228101)

Evaporation Rate: 20,000 lb/h
Orientation: Vertical
Diameter: 192 in
Additional Information: • CS, with rubber lining, Vapor Body, with Alloy support accessories, forced circulation crystallizer, part of a Zero Discharge System (ZLD). The system's major equipment consists of a shell and tube evaporator heater, Vapor body, recirculation pump and centrifuge. Rated for 50 GPM flow10% moisture) and consumes 20 psi steam at 25,00 lbs./hr. Following is a short process description: The feed from Brine Evaporator enters the recirculation piping above the recirculation pump. The feed is mixed with recirculating brine slurry and pumped through the heater where it increases in temperature and is sent to the vapor body. The hot brine flashes down to the saturation pressure inside the vessel, producing vapor and the cycle is repeated. Crystals are formed continuously in crystallizer vapor body and have to be removed. Concentrated product is removed from the system, passed through a centrifuge to remove the solid crystals and is returned to the evaporator recirculation line. The crystals are sent to a landfill. Vapor from the crystallizer is sent to a small barometric condenser using cooling water to condense the vapors. Condensate is mixed with incoming cooling water and is discharged back to the cooling tower. Vent from the condenser is vented by a CS ejector, through a silencer, and out to the atmosphere. Prime condensate from the condensed plant stream is sent back to the primary feed heater to assist in heating incoming Brine Evaporator feed. The following are main components of the system: Stock #228100- crystallizer heater is 5,700 Ft2 of surface area, with 1040 straight tubes, 1.25”OD x 0.028” wall thickness x 12 Feet long, and are constructed of Titanium. The tube sheets are SS316 Ti clad. Heads are made of SS alloy AL6XN & Shell of SS316L. The Crystallizer stock # 228156 is 16’ Dia. x 30’ Overall Height with 60” cone bottom. It is made of rubber lined Carbon steel. (the crystallizer vessel was removed , we have a drawing so a new vapor body can be constructed.) The Crystallizer recirculation pump, stock #228104 is 19,000 GPM with 150 HP motor and fabricated from SS alloy. The centrifuge stock #228101 is Bird Bowl type, 24" diameter x 38" long, rated for 18,304 Lbs./hr. with SS316L contact parts, 30 HP Motor with SS alloy product contact parts.

Browse used, surplus and secondhand evaporators from IPP – in stock and optimized for chemical, pharma and food processing

Save time and money with IPP’s ready-to-ship evaporators for distillation, purification and thermal separation

Used evaporators are thermal separation systems that concentrate solutions, recover solvents, or reduce waste volume by vaporizing liquid components. These systems are essential across industries where product purity, yield, and cost-efficiency matter. With more than 47 years of industry expertise, IPP offers used, secondhand and surplus evaporators from 20 complete plant sites and a massive inventory of over 15,000 systems ready to ship.

Evaporators are available in multiple configurations—falling film, rising film, forced circulation, wiped film and multiple-effect systems—each tailored for specific viscosity, temperature sensitivity and throughput needs.

Primary uses across industries

  • In pharmaceuticals, evaporators concentrate APIs and remove solvents during intermediate processing
  • In chemical manufacturing, they purify products and reclaim valuable solvents from process streams

Evaporator FAQ

Have questions about Evaporators or our services? Learn more about our products and why customers choose IPP.

What’s the difference between falling film and forced circulation evaporators?
Falling film evaporators are ideal for heat-sensitive materials and lower viscosities, while forced circulation systems handle higher solids and fouling-prone feeds.
Can used evaporators be modified for new applications?
Yes – many units can be reconfigured with new instrumentation, controls or materials of construction to meet changing process needs.
Are multi-effect evaporators more energy efficient?
Absolutely – they reuse vapor from one stage to heat the next, reducing overall steam consumption and operational costs.
What are the benefits of buying used or secondhand process equipment from IPP?
IPP provides faster lead times, cost savings and global support from a team with 47+ years of process plant experience.
